Becoming Warriors

Updated: May 6, 2021

Combining schools comes with many challenges but one of the greatest honors of the merge was being part of the Naming and Design Team. Our team was made up of five Hosanna members and five Triad members who spent the last ten months agonizing over the details inherent in rebranding the school. Our tasks included creating a new name, mascot, and school colors, imparting in them the qualities that make our new school special. Our goals were to ensure our name and mascot embodied Christian qualities, was easy to understand, conveyed community and unity, and had an established feeling. Throughout the process, we endeavored to honor the heritages of Hosanna and Triad.

Hosanna Christian School was founded by Davy Fowler and Bev Hesser in 1989. The school was first housed in Klamath Falls Assembly of God Church (now Thrive Church). Through God’s provision, Hosanna broke ground in 2000 at 5000 Hosanna Way, and a new school building was lovingly constructed by students, parents, and alumni of Hosanna School. The doors opened in Spring 2002. Hosanna has received many prestigious awards over the past thirty-one years. Their commitment to teach a Christ centered education and emphasize Christlike service continues at Crosspoint.

Triad School was founded in 1995 by David and Christina Wehr. The school was governed and housed by Bible Baptist Church and founded with the vision to teach students a Christian worldview within a framework of academic excellence, preparing them for collegiate success after high school. Triad grew and was given the opportunity to move into the Altamont School building in 2008. In their twenty-five years of operation, Triad was given many awards for academic excellence. Triad’s commitment to high quality education will be evident at Crosspoint Christian School.

The search for the perfect mascot was not for the faint of heart. The team consulted students, faculty, and parents for their favorite mascot ideas, and we carefully deliberated over the more than fifty original submissions. While the process was laborious, we refused to cut corners. Besides, it was entertaining to have proposals such as the Link River Leviathans or the KFC Chickens. Over the course of many meetings, we narrowed the list down to the top five and submitted them to students, parents, faculty, and alumni for feedback. Warriors was the clear winner with over 75% of the votes! When creating the Warrior, we knew it was important to incorporate the heritage of both schools. The Warrior’s shield has three notable images: the Hosanna Lion, the Triad Timberwolf, and the Crosspoint Cross, which is half navy and half teal, symbolizing the two school’s original colors uniting.

Herein lies the true blessing of working on the Naming and Design Team. It would have been easy for any of the ten team members to focus on what their school was giving up, and truth be told, some of us worried the discussions would get intense and lead to stale-mates. This could not have been further from the truth! Everyone fixed instead on what we were building. The experience proved to us that Crosspoint Christian School is without a doubt the best of both Triad and Hosanna. In those meetings, we enjoyed the blessing of two communities setting aside what was to help create what will be.

We experienced firsthand that we are indeed becoming Warriors.

"Now the full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one said that any of the things that belonged to him was his own, but they had everything in common." Acts 4;32
